Wembley Stadium

creative Case Study

The world-class, permanent and full moving lighting infrastructure we produced for Wembley Stadium was the first of it’s kind for a UK stadium.

A landmark stadium requires a landmark lighting installation.

The Brief

One of the most famous stadiums in the world, Wembley Stadium hosts some of the biggest events in sport, music and entertainment, attracting more than 2 million visitors per year. After re-opening in May 2007, the stadium has undertaken consistent improvements in its bid to provide the ultimate live event experience at a truly world-class venue.

To achieve this, Wembley Stadium made the decision to invest in a world-class lighting control solution, which would be supplied by Stadium FX in partnership with Musco Sports Lighting. The system would be both comprehensive and flexible, giving Wembley Stadium full control over their lighting capabilities in order to produce stunning set pieces during live concerts and prominent sporting events.

The Solution

Working with Musco Sports Lighting, we designed, supplied and installed a Stadium FX Apollo Control system for the field of play floodlights, as well as the new high power back-of-bowl and upper bowl Musco RGBW coloured lights. The new system now enables Wembley Stadium to entertain event-goers with a range of creative and customised light shows.

On top of this, we also worked to fully integrate the existing Arch control into the new Apollo system, as well as providing a comprehensive link to the stadium BMS system. This allowed perhaps the most famous feature of Wembley Stadium to shine at its brightest, indicating how Apollo can be integrated seamlessly into existing systems in order to illuminate a stadium’s strongest features.

The Results

The resulting lighting solution we designed and installed for Wembley Stadium alongside Musco is a permanent full moving light infrastructure of power and data with the ability to enable rapid overlay lighting deployment. This was a first for a UK stadium, and it remains an impressive benchmark in stadium lighting design.

Through the use of our “Guest Input Box”, Apollo allows incoming guest lighting designers to instantly connect to the system. This is hugely important for a venue like Wembley Stadium, which hosts some of the world’s leading musical acts. These artists often come with their own pre-determined light shows, and our system has been designed to enable their teams to put on the perfect light show without the need to make any last minute adjustments.
